When Danielle Lewis began her role as CHRO of the Vancouver-based Pacific Pilotage Authority, she had zero experience in the marine sector but a sense of the unique challenges the industry is facing in a world of labour shortages and cutbacks. Hiring for highly-specialized and experienced roles has required Lewis and her team to be innovative, developing a “Workforce of the Future” plan as part of the Authority’s four pillar strategy.
In this episode of HRD Talk, Lewis spoke with HRD reporter Stacy Thomas about how she is collaborating with industry stakeholders to bring the “old school” marine industry into the modern world. We discuss specific strategies such as in-house education, as well as how she has learned to maintain her own mental health and bring those learnings to those she works with.
