Which industries offer the most mental health benefits?

When it comes to offering mental health benefits, the technology, information and media industry tops the list, according to a recent report.

A total of 8,884 job ads in this industry feature mental health-related keywords – representing 23.56% of all such ads across industries.

Key benefits offerings in this sector include health insurance (28.49%) and employee assistance programs (19.08%).

“The sector’s overall focus on mental health reflects its progressive approach to employee wellbeing,” says Reboot Online, which did the report. “These efforts align with the industry's broader adoption of flexible working arrangements, high salaries, and remote work, all of which contribute to improved mental health outcomes.”

Citing a Forbes report, the PR agency notes that happiness levels increase by 20% when employees can work remotely. And this advantage is “readily available in tech roles,” says the Reboot Online.

Mental health benefits are essential to workers’ job satisfaction, according to a previous report.

Health care, professional services

Hospital and health care ranks second in the Reboot Online list with 7,651 job ads including mental health-related benefits. That’s equivalent to 20.29% of all mental health-related job ads.

Health insurance (25%) and mental health training (18.56%) are among the top offerings, in this industry alongside mental health days (20.27%).

Professional services comes in third with 4,894 relevant job ads, comprising 12.98% of all such listings.

Meanwhile, farming, ranching and forestry ranks dead last in the list, with real estate and equipment rental services doing just a little bit better.

One in three Canadians would leave their current job for more comprehensive mental health benefits, according to a previous GreenShield report.

“Prioritizing mental health is no longer a 'nice-to-have'; it’s a critical component of long-term business success. A workforce that feels supported is more resilient, creative, and motivated, leading to higher productivity and innovation,” says Shai Aharony, CEO of Reboot Online.

“Employers that prioritize mental wellbeing not only attract top talent but also reduce absenteeism and turnover, ultimately gaining a competitive edge in their industries. Investing in mental health is a smart business strategy that not only benefits employees but also safeguards business outcomes, creating a resilient workforce that drives sustainable growth."

The importance of supporting one or more dimensions of employee wellbeing increased for 85% of employers in 2024, according to a previous Gallagher report.
