International HR event returns to Canada

An international HR event is returning to Canada this year, following unprecedented success in Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines.

Featuring speakers from some of the world’s top law firms, the Employment Law Masterclass has attracted thousands of attendees across nine different cities – including Sydney, Auckland, Melbourne and Manilla.

In September, the event will return to Toronto following a two-year hiatus and event organizer Cris Costa said she anticipated high demand.

“The Canadian legal landscape is under constant scrutiny and we’ve seen a number of major amendments this year alone,” said Costa. “Specifically, the planned the legalization of Cannabis has pushed many HR professionals to question their current drug policies.”

Holly Reid – a partner with leading business law firm Blake, Cassels & Graydon – is scheduled to host a session on the issue where she will discuss the ramifications for employers and provide guidance on drug testing, impairment testing and monitoring cannabis use in the workplace.

Other sessions include an update on accommodation and disabilities in the workplace, recent developments relating to accommodation, elder care and family status, and a legal guide on how to draft enforceable termination clauses.

The full event schedule – as well as information about advance tickets – can be found online.
