Portal ‘will provide jobseekers, students and employers with the data they need to make informed choices that can strengthen their careers, build their businesses and boost our province’s economy’
The Alberta government has launched a new Labour Market Information portal aimed at providing employers, HR professionals, and jobseekers with up-to-date data on employment trends and workforce needs across the province.
The portal is designed to help Albertans make informed decisions about career planning, education, and training, while supporting employers with key labour-related data, indicators, and trends.
“Alberta’s economy is strong, diverse and full of opportunity, and we want to ensure Albertans have every tool available to seize it,” said Joseph Schow, minister of jobs, economy, trade and immigration. “The new Labour Market Information portal will provide jobseekers, students and employers with the data they need to make informed choices that can strengthen their careers, build their businesses and boost our province’s economy.”
According to the Alberta government, the user-friendly platform provides information on in-demand jobs, changing industries, and the skills required in today’s workforce. The portal is intended to assist students, jobseekers, workers, employers, and policymakers in understanding the current labour market and preparing for future opportunities. Employers and policymakers can use the data to support workforce strategies and planning.
Nearly 30% of hiring managers across Canada anticipate that staff turnover will increase before the year’s end, according to a previous Express Employment Professionals report.
The Labour Market Information portal complements the Alberta Economic Dashboard, which highlights Alberta’s strong investment climate, according to the Alberta government. While the dashboard focuses on investment-related information, the new portal fills a critical gap by offering comprehensive labour market information tailored to workers, employers, and other key partners, the government said.
Alberta Jobs Strategy
The new tool also aligns with the goals of the Alberta Jobs Strategy, which supports Alberta employers and workers by investing in workforce development research and strategies, and expanding access to labour data, projects, and training programmes.
“Reliable labour market information is essential for helping Albertans, employers, and policymakers make informed decisions in a rapidly changing economy,” said Mike Holden, vice-president, policy and chief economist, Business Council of Alberta. “This new portal is a valuable step toward improving the accessibility and quality of labour market insights in our province, and it will support stronger workforce planning and better career choices for Albertans.”
Recently, the Alberta government announced its new jobs strategy backed by more than $26 billion in capital investments over the next three years, aiming to strengthen the province’s workforce and address both immediate and future labour market needs.
Job vacancies in Canada dropped to 524,300 (-20,600; -3.8%) in the first quarter of 2025, following little change in the final quarter of 2024, according to Statistics Canada (StatCan).
