Intel's CPO: 'We will be embracing flexibility'

Intel is taking a "flexible" approach as it invites more employees back into its workplaces, according to its chief people officer, as COVID-19 restrictions across the United States gradually start easing. Christy Pambianchi, Intel's executive vice president and chief people officer, announced on LinkedIn that the company will be "embracing flexibility" to create a more dynamic workplace in the future.

"I am excited to share that we are officially moving into the future of work at Intel Corporation! As we bring more employees back to many of our campuses, we will be embracing flexibility," said the executive. "By embracing flexibility, we can create a dynamic workplace that enables all of us to do our best work. I am excited about the endless possibilities and connection opportunities throughout this transition.”

The chief people officer acknowledged that a "one-size-fits-all" method may not work when it comes to its employees, adding that they will be considering the different needs of their departments moving forward.

"We know for certain that there is no-one-size-fits-all when it comes to working at Intel," she said. "Our approach to flexibility will account for the specific needs of different business units, teams, employees, and geographies, and the different work each of us do throughout the year."

Her announcement follows a report from The Register, which said it obtained an internal email from Intel that assures employees that it is safe to bring them back.

It cited in the email the "high level of community immunity and a 90% vaccination rate among employees," according to the report.

Back in November 2021, Pambianchi said on Intel's website that 90% of its employees said they preferred a hybrid workplace arrangement when their sites reopen when asked about it earlier in April the same year.

On the work arrangement, the chief people officer said they will not be mandating a single approach on how many days per week or how people should collaborate.

"We are empowering teams to find the balance that drives results and achieves our business goals. There is no one-size-fits-all approach for our global workforce," said the Pambianchi.

Intel's decision on flexibility came after other tech giants, such as Twitter and Microsoft, unveiled their own opening plans.
