Former Meta exec joins Zoom as Chief People Officer

Zoom announced on Thursday that former Meta executive Matthew Saxon is joining the company as its Chief People Officer effective immediately - as the company reports massive growth amid the pandemic.

In a media release, Saxon will be leading Zoom's People Experience team and help the company scale all elements of the organisation, including culture, organisational design, talent acquisition, engagement, training and development, employee experience, and infrastructure.

He is also responsible of ensuring that Zoom's core value of Care is reflected in the company's approach to benefits, compensation, recruitment, culture, employee experiences, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion.

He will report to Aparna Bawa, Zoom's chief operating officer, who expressed confidence that Saxon will help elevate the organisation.

"Our Zoomies are at the core of everything we do, and we know that having the right leader in place to help shape the future of Zoom's workforce will allow us to better serve our customers' evolving needs," said Bawa in a statement.

"We are excited to welcome Matthew, who has a deep understanding of the complexities today's workforce is facing, and we are confident that his skill set will help elevate and strengthen Zoom as we navigate the next phase of work together."

Saxon brings with him more than two decades of experience in handling human resources and people operations, after he previously served as Vice President of People Operations at Meta, where he helped develop the "strategic people roadmap" and led the delivery of programmes and services that supported the company's headcount and growth.

He was also the Senior Vice President of Compensation, HR Operations, and Shared Services for Humana Inc., and previously held other roles at Motorola, Inc., including Vice President of Total Rewards and Vice President of Human Resources for Asia Pacific and Middle East.

On his new role, Saxon said he is excited to help the company, adding that he was drawn to the company's genuine care for its employees.

"I was drawn to Zoom's clarity in its core value of care. It is obvious in everything the company does, but most importantly, it's clear the leadership team genuinely cares about employees," he said in a statement.

"Zoom has completely transformed the way people and businesses connect, and I'm excited to help drive the company forward by elevating and advocating for our employees," he added. "Together, Zoom will continue to lead and demonstrate how companies can thrive to drive successful business outcomes."

Saxon joins the company as it enjoys a massive growth following the shift of employees to remote or hybrid work, which utilises video conference applications like Zoom to communicate with colleagues.
