Deloitte supports platform for gender equality in workplaces

Deloitte has declared its support to the recently launched One Global Women Empowerment (OGWE) platform that advocates for gender equality in businesses and workplaces. The OGWE platform, an initiative by the Business 20's Women in Business Council (WIBAC), aims to connect businesses, civil society, government, and the investor community to accelerate and expand existing initiatives that promote the inclusion of women and women-led businesses.

Deloitte Global CEO Punit Renjen said they are "committed to supporting knowledge-sharing through OGWE to help empower women in the workforce."

"As a purpose-led organisation deeply committed to making an impact that matters, we believe that leading the way on the complex challenges that stand in the way of gender balance in wider society is not just the right thing to do but the right business thing to do," he said.

The OGWE platform is set to show how digitalisation can address various needs, including access to digital skills development, as well as link women to leadership development and training.

It was launched by WIBAC, an initiative from the Business 20 that aims to address issues on gender diversity across businesses. According to the council, women remain underrepresented due to discrimination, which was made worse by the pandemic.

Nicole Scoble-Williams, Deloitte Global Future of Work Leader, said their organisation is "committed to gender parity" to help women excel in the economy.

"We envision a world in which both men and women are given equal opportunities to thrive in business, technology and innovation," she said during the B20-G20 Dialogue.

In the same dialogue, the policy recommendations previously brought forward by the B20 WIBAC was also highlighted. These included initiatives on promoting safe and equitable workplaces, as well as empowering women entrepreneurs, among others. According to WIBAC, implementing these recommendations will not only address gender parity but will also boost the global economy.

The B20 is the official G20 dialogue forum with the business community. It aims to deliver "concrete actionable policy recommendations" to spur economic growth and development.
