Disgruntled employee jailed following Christmas Day arson attack

A disgruntled employee allegedly set fire to her workplace on Christmas Day, after being fired.

Rose Marie Fenwick set fire to the London property firm where she previously worked as an administrator.

Fenwick had worked at the company for six years before being let go. She was identified by her ‘distinctive walk’ caught on CCTV, according to The Independent.

There were several acts committed by Fenwick which led to her eventual arrest. After being fired, she initially started a letterbox fire at the company’s building in July; the next year she damaged the building’s front door. In Christmas, the attacks culminated in a fire on the evening of December 25.

"Fenwick's personal vendetta against her former employer led to her committing offences that not only caused a nuisance but also instilled a sense of fear amongst staff who became concerned about their safety at work,” added Cynthia Caiquo, a senior prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service.

"The court made an order restraining her from going anywhere near her former workplace. I hope this conviction and sentence gives employers the confidence they need to report crimes against them.”

Fenwick was jailed for 20 months.
