HRD Canada announces Top HR Innovators and Innovative HR Teams

HRD Canada released its list of Top HR Innovators in Canada and Most Innovative HR Teams 2024, showcasing firms that are using cutting-edge strategies that move the HR industry forward in areas such as recruitment, health and wellness and talent management.

The report used data from reader-submitted entries highlighting teams and HR individuals who are agile, bold and forward-thinking in their people strategies. Diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) strategies and innovative uses of AI technologies were also highlighted.

Based in Northern Ontario, regional mining company Agnico Eagle Mines has been using innovative HR strategies to develop their future workforce.

Innovating HR strategies include multidimensional learning

“The space around future workforce development and the HR function is in the spotlight across all industries, not just in mining,” said Nathan Cloet, HR director for the Ontario region.

“It’s imperative that we address the current and future workforce supply needs and continue to provide value and deliver tangible benefits results to the business.”

The company has been setting the gold standard of talent development, including “multidimensional learning components” such as field placements that met local labour market needs with and also had positive outcomes for disproportionately impacted and underrepresented groups.

Core and targeted training opportunities include trade apprenticeships, underground miner training as well as mentorship and financial assistance.

“We have already hired multiple participants from this initiative who are skilled, resilient, and job-ready,” Cloet said.

Cloet also suggested that collaboration between industries and government rather than competing for talent would be more impactful in resolving hiring challenges.
