Former CIBC exec set to take over leadership role
TELUS Corporation has announced that long‑time president and CEO Darren Entwistle will retire on June 30, 2026, after more than 26 years leading the company.
The Vancouver‑based company said its board of directors has appointed Victor Dodig, former president and CEO of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), as president and CEO effective July 1, 2026. Dodig, an independent director on the TELUS board since May 2022, becomes CEO designate immediately and will join the leadership team full time on 1 May 2026 to support what TELUS called a “seamless transition.”
Expressing "profound gratitude" for his transformational leadership, John Manley, chair of the TELUS board, credited Entwistle with growing TELUS “from a regional Canadian telecommunications provider to a leading global communications technology company operating in more than 45 countries and generating over $20 billion in annual revenue.”
In connection with his retirement, Entwistle will step down from the TELUS board on 30 June 2026. He will be accorded the title of CEO Emeritus and will act as an advisor to Dodig until 30 April 2027.
Entwistle called it “a tremendous privilege to be a member of the TELUS team,” adding: “The success we have realized belongs to the extraordinary people who have built so passionately the amazing culture that sets this company apart.” He said supporting the team “has been the greatest honour of my career.”
TELUS highlighted Entwistle’s status as the longest‑serving CEO among incumbent telecom companies globally and cited his role in navigating digital disruption, competition, regulatory pressure and the global pandemic.
Incoming CEO at TELUS
Dodig joins TELUS after leading what the company described as a “comprehensive transformation” at CIBC, focused on customer service, enhanced technology and growth.
“I am excited to build on Darren’s legacy and by the opportunity to lead TELUS in its exciting next chapter,” Dodig said.
TELUS said Dodig’s appointment followed a comprehensive CEO succession planning process overseen by its board of directors.
TELUS recently won a Quebec telework grievance over its three‑day office return. The company also previously announced a wave of voluntary separations offered to about 700 workers.
