Organization rebranding as former name 'no longer captured the purpose of our work’
The Conference Board of Canada is changing its name to Signal49 Research, in a move the organisation describes as a major step in its evolution as a national research and economics hub.
The new name takes effect Jan. 26, 2026.
“Our former name no longer captured the purpose of our work. Our new name does,” according to the organisation. “Signal49 Research embodies clarity, trust, and forward momentum” and “represents a guiding signal in times of uncertainty; a dependable beacon that leaders can rely on to navigate complexity.”
The organisation adds: “We look forward to advancing our purpose with even greater clarity, now as Signal49 Research.”
The new brand was developed in collaboration with an external branding agency, and pays homage to the 49th parallel while drawing inspiration from Signal Hill in Newfoundland, where the first transatlantic wireless message was received, says the group.
The Conference Board previously licensed its name from an unaffiliated U.S. organization, The Conference Board Inc., which will resume exclusive use of the trademark.
The Canadian organisation recently reported that artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to trigger a turbulent decade in Canada’s labour market, with significant job losses expected before longer-term employment gains materialise.
It also noted that modest salary increases are coming this year.
In May 2025, the Conference Board of Canada acquired Vicinity Jobs, a labour market analytics firm, and it also launched the Centre for Canadian Growth and Prosperity (CCGP).
