In today’s HRDC interview, we sat down with Natalie Macdonald, founding partner of Macdonald and Associates, a leading labor and employment boutique law firm in Toronto. Natalie recently received the prestigious recognition of being named the best labor and employment boutique law firm at the ninth annual Canadian HR Awards. In addition, Natalie herself was named an Excellence Award at the HRPA Award for Women of Distinction. We had the privilege of sitting down with Natalie to discuss some of her most recent accomplishments as an employment lawyer.

When asked about the significance of her awards, Natalie humbly expressed that while she appreciates the recognition, her purpose has never been driven by accolades. Macdonald and Associates primary focus has always been on satisfying their clients and creating a positive difference in people’s lives. Natalie attributes her success to perseverance, diligence, hard work, and most of all, having a great team. She acknowledges that no lawyer can achieve success on a large level without the help of a competent team to support them.

Reflecting on her career, Natalie shared some of her greatest accomplishments as an employment lawyer. Highlighting some of her best cases such as writing a book on extraordinary damages in Canadian employment law and winning the leading case of Galea and Walmart. Further in the interview, she sheds light on notable cases such as Antidormi and Blue Pumpkin where she argued for aggressive inducement early in her career. Throughout all her victories, Natalie’s commitment to fighting for justice and creating a positive change remains strong and a defining attribute of her career as an employment lawyer.
