Discover what defines an exceptional workplace culture in 2023 – with Diana Godfrey

In this edition of HRDTV, Diana Godfrey, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Fidelity Canada shed light on what makes it one of the best places to work and the initiatives that have shaped its exceptional workplace culture.

When asked about the key ingredients of a standout workplace, Godfrey emphasized that a great workplace starts with its people and culture. At Fidelity Canada, employees are responsible for shaping the company’s environment, which revolves around fostering a culture of listening and open communication. Fidelity Canada has implemented a “voice of the employee” initiative, utilizing a series of surveys to ensure that not only do employees feel valued and heard, but feel like they have the right to speak up and know that their opinions are validated.

The past year has presented many challenges, particularly with the impact of COVID-19 on the workforce. Despite the many challenges, Fidelity Canada turned these struggles into opportunities by embracing a dynamic working model and allowing for a flexible work environment that puts employees and clients first. By creating a strategic hybrid model, employees were not only allowed to work more on their own terms, but able to nurture their skills and development even during remote work situations. As workers returned to the office in person, Fidelity Canada invested in creating a more dynamic and engaging work environment with the intention of seamlessly linking the in-person office with its remote teams. The goal was to make every day at the office an experience that can’t be replicate at home.

Among the many initiatives undertaken by Fidelity Canada, the “Money Gains” video series stands out. This project aims to advance financial literacy among young people, particularly high school students. The series provides relatable insights into investing, compound interest, and other financial concepts. What makes it even more special is that the videos are created by young employees, providing valuable opportunities for talent to educate their peers.

Looking ahead to the future, Fidelity Canada has very exciting plans in store for its employees. New initiatives revolving around diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as a commitment to addressing mental health and wellness are in the works for Fidelity Canada, ensuring employees feel supported both professionally and personally. With peer networking and employee resources at the forefront of fostering a collaborative culture, Fidelity Canada aims to further enhance the employee experience. Its dedication to open communication and progressive changes in the workplace holds much promise for a successful and fulfilling future up ahead.
