Angry boss suspended after viral video of tirade

“You want to get fired?”

The video of a manager yelling and pointing a finger at her employees’ faces has surfaced on social media, prompting an investigation by her employer and leading to her indefinite suspension.

The woman, who works for Malaysian telco company Maxis, could be seen threatening two co-workers – one of whom was pregnant – over what seemed to be failure to perform a task.

“Why can’t you do what I asked you to do?” the irate woman told a co-worker in a video posted on the Facebook page of Malaysia News Station. The footage has since gone viral.

Maxis said it regrets the incident, explaining the event that unfolded in the video is “not reflective of the values” that Maxis upholds, which is “creating a passionate positive and collaborative workspace for all our employees.”

Netizens on Reddit who claimed to work for Maxis identified the manager as “C”, who was allegedly known in the company for her behaviour as a “spoiled entitled brat”.

“I couldn’t even report this ‘managers’ [sic] to Maxis HR because I was temp staff,” one commented.

Negative emotions such as anger in the workplace not only cause team morale to plummet – they also lead to other unethical behaviour, according to researchers from the University of Arizona. HRD tackles the “high cost of angry employees” in this article.
