Inside AIA's strategy to cope with the 'new normal'

AIA Singapore is offering all employees $1,000 to enhance their home office setup

Inside AIA's strategy to cope with the 'new normal'

Employees at AIA Singapore will receive a lump sum of $1,000 to ensure they can get equipment they need to enhance their home office setup. This is especially crucial as they make plans to make remote working into a long-term policy.

The initiative also aims to help staff struggling financially due to the COVID-19-related recession. Over 1,000 permanent and contract staff will benefit from the initiative.

What’s more, CEO Patrick Teow said there are currently no plans to implement salary cuts.

Even as Singapore embarks on the second phase of reopening the country, lifting most restrictions after June 19, AIA employees will continue working from home as management works on making flexible arrangements a permanent policy.

The extended benefit will allow employees to choose which days of the week they’d like to work from home as well as customise the time and arrangements to meet their individual needs.

Recognising the impact of extended remote working periods on workers, AIA is also granting an additional day off to encourage employees to use the time to focus on personal well-being.

The company continues to encourage employees to embrace the ‘new normal’ with the use of various online platforms for regular virtual townhalls, daily meetings, as well as casual check-ins to support each other’s well-being. AIA also rolled out virtual sessions on mental wellness, fitness sessions, and “how-to’s” including one on optimising work-from-home ergonomics.

“We are people-centric at AIA Singapore and place a high priority on our employee well-being as they are the force behind AIA’s success,” said Patrick Teow, CEO at AIA Singapore.

“We are in this together and it is even more so during these unprecedented times that we want to assure them of our emphasis to preserve jobs and commitment to invest in their continuous personal and professional development.”

This also extends to potential employees. AIA is offering over 200 job opportunities through its various recruitment campaigns for jobseekers who are keen to embark in wealth management and insurance associate roles.

Additionally, to support recent graduates, they’ve tapped on the SGUnited Traineeships Program to offer traineeship positions for digital roles such as data analytics and UX design.

“Being a leading life insurer, there is no better time for us to demonstrate leadership by providing peace of mind during times when people need us most,” Teow said.

“We would like to convey our deepest appreciation to our employees and thank them for their continual commitment and dedication in stepping up to support our company and our customers.”
