The candidate experience: why it matters, and how to get it right

We’re well into our “post-pandemic” world, but the talent shortage and retention struggle hasn’t gone away.

In today’s highly competitive talent market, creating a great experience for candidates is more important than ever. However, with rapidly changing needs and expectations, creating an experience that works for everyone can be tough. Organisations are struggling to strike the right balance between remote and on-site work, and candidates are constantly re-evaluating what they want from their careers.

To meet these challenges, the value of an “exceptional candidate experience” can’t be overstated.  According to Eric Sydell, EVP innovation at Modern Hire, there are a number of ways to improve your candidate experience, starting with the use of data and smart technology.

“It all starts with developing a scientifically-based, rigorous set of selection tools coupled with an authentic, informative presentation,” he explains.

“This allows candidates to learn about the job and organisation, while giving you the information you need to make the best decision in the least amount of time possible.

“It is more important than ever that organisations create jobs that are compelling, and that they build hiring experiences that are engaging and interesting for their candidate pools.”

Along with Grant Meyer, managing director APAC at Modern Hire, Sydell will be presenting a webinar titled The Candidate Experience in 2023: What’s New and How To Get It Right. The session will discuss why a great candidate experience is so important, and how organisations can create hiring processes that help rather than hinder efforts to hire the best quality candidates.

It will also touch on growing diverse demographics, and how recruiters can be flexible as their talent populations change.

“Candidate experience is increasingly vital,” Sydell says.

“HR Professionals attending our session will learn the tenets of a great candidate experience, and come away with easy-to-implement ideas on how they can make their own hiring processes world-leading. This will help them to recruit and hire the best quality candidates.”

The Candidate Experience in 2023: What’s New and How To Get It Right will run at 3pm NZT on 25th May. To sign up, click here.
