Companies are being urged to start appointing dedicated ‘social media managers’ if they are to continue to attract a talented workforce.

HR departments are always under pressure to create roles. Just yesterday I had a meeting with an international HRD and they have not replaced a Remuneration & Benefits Manager.

The biggest challenge is ROI on social media. It is still early days. Perhaps a good place to start is to allocate it as part of an existing role.

Social media however is much more than recruitment, it is also linked to internal communication and can be quite effective to improve employee engagement.

I'm certainly of the opinion that the role is here to stay.

Especially when Gen Y - the youngest talent out there - have never lived in a world without social media(!)
