More than 100,000 women may be forced to give up work if the government goes ahead with suggested changes to childcare subsidies.

Parenting IS working life! And its HARD work. Women ease back into the PAID workforce not because that work is more important but because its way easier and generally valued more highly, and you get to put money aside for retirement later.

In today's society parenting only seems to be important when making judgements about how good a job other parents are doing.

While having children is a choice (hopefully), those who do not have children benefit from the fact that others do choose to have children. It is other people's children that will drive your taxi's, perform your triple bypass, and administer your super or age pension. In my opinion it make good sense to ensure our children are well cared for and to share the cost of child care.
