Fun Friday: Top 10 companies for remote workers

Amid the talent crunch, top organisations across the world no longer see remote work as an option but a necessity.

The arrangement enables companies to tap into the global talent pool – without ever really having to pay extra in order to relocate high-calibre employees.

For the past seven years, career site FlexJobs has analysed remote job postings worldwide to come up with an annual list of 100 of the most ‘remote-friendly’ organisations. This year, the group looked at data from more than 54,000 companies.

Volume vs variety

“The most notable change we’ve seen over the past year is not so much the growth in the sheer volume of remote job listings, but the growth in the variety of remote job titles these companies are seeking to hire,” said Sara Sutton, founder and CEO of FlexJobs.

“Companies are expanding the range of professional positions they’re allowing to work from home.”

Sutton believes the true scope of remote work opportunities available today is much wider than what is being advertised, considering how informal and ‘ad hoc’ work-from-home arrangements are also becoming increasingly common.

“All of this,” she said, “is ultimately fantastic news for remote job seekers across all career fields and levels.”

‘Remote-friendly’ companies and job vacancies

According to FlexJobs, the six most ‘remote-friendly’ industries include:

  1. Medical and health
  2. Computer and IT
  3. Customer Service
  4. Education and training
  5. Sales
  6. Accounting and finance

“While a wide variety of jobs can be done from home, some of the most popular remote job titles include accountant, customer service representative, nurse, project manager, recruiter, teacher, web developer, and writer,” FlexJobs noted.
