For many people working now means working from anywhere, giving rise to the digital nomad. Key Media has been scouring the globe to find out which countries have the best digital nomad policies and conditions. HRD spoke with Immigration Officers from the winning destination, Antigua, and Barbuda about their Digital Nomad Residence Program.

What is the VISA program?

Antigua and Barbuda have been running the DNR program, in response to the COVID pandemic since September 2021. The program is open to any employee or self-employed person that can complete their work fully remotely and is amenable to sunshine, rum punches, and warm hospitality.

What is the process for joining the DNR program?

Simply fill out an application form on Antigua and Barbuda’s immigration website, upload a few documents, then submit it the application. There is a five-day turnaround.

What other requirements are there?

Your income is required to be more than $50,000 USD and the entirety of your work must be completely remote. The VISA applies for two years. Most other Caribbean islands only offer 1-year VISAs.

Is there a cost involved?

There are three types of applications – singles ($1500 USD), couples ($2000 USD), and families (up to three dependents - $3000 USD). Digital Nomad Visa holders do not pay any tax and you have all the conferred rights of residents of Antigua and Barbuda.
