FDC trials 4-day work week at Fleur de Chine Hotel: reports

FDC International Hotels Corp. has begun trialling a four-day work week for employees at the Fleur de Chine Hotel near Sun Moon Lake, according to reports.

The trial, which started on September 1, grants employees three days off a week, Focus Taiwan reported.

Those who will not be joining the programme will receive overtime pay.

The trial is expected to run for six months, but FDC said it may expand the system to other hotels and implement it for a longer period if the results are positive, according to the report.

3-day week to boost job satisfaction

Sheng Chih-jen, FDC chairman, said he believes that a weekly three-day off period can boost job satisfaction among employees and improve their overall work efficiency and creativity.

The company said it implemented the work arrangement due to the shift in work patterns and workplace culture post-pandemic, which has seen many employees prioritising work-life balance.

The implementation of four-day work weeks has been gaining momentum across the world with many organisations joining massive trial runs to see how the arrangement can work for their workforce.

The workforce in Taiwan's neighbouring nations in Southeast Asia weighed in on the work arrangement back in 2022, where a majority of employees there expressed approval of the implementation of a compressed four-day work week in their organisation.
