Compensation limits for various categories will see notable increments to bolster protection for employees
Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has announced significant updates to the compensation limits outlined in the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA).
This move comes as part of the ministry’s routine review process aimed at aligning compensation levels with wage growth and the escalating costs of healthcare. The previous review of compensation limits occurred back in 2020, and the impending adjustments are set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
Under these revisions, the compensation limits for various categories will see notable increments to bolster protection for employees across the board, according to a news release. The compensation limit for death and permanent incapacity is poised to rise by approximately 19%, reaching $269,000 and $346,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, the compensation cap for medical expenses will undergo a 17% increase, now reaching $53,000.
WICA has expressed its commitment to protect employees in Singapore, offering recourse in the event of work-related injuries or illnesses. It offers to facilitate streamlined claims processes, bypassing the need for employees to resort to filing civil suits under common law.
WICA notes it will ensure compensation irrespective of fault, thereby mitigating financial risks for both employees and employers alike.
