Better benefits, perks driving employees to find new jobs

Flexibility keeps employees loyal to current roles, report finds

Nearly three in four employees in the United States have no plans to switch jobs in a bid to hold on to their current level of flexibility, according to a new report.

Findings from Robert Half's poll among 2,000 US professionals revealed that 73% of workers plan to stay in their current role.

On the other hand, only 27% of workers plan to look for a new job, down from the 29% recorded in January.

According to the report, flexibility is the top reason why employees want to stay, with 37% not wanting to risk losing their current level of flexibility.

Employees' other reasons for staying are:

  • A positive company culture and relationship with their manager (33%)
  • Feeling professionally fulfilled in their current role (31%)
  • Being well compensated (29%)

What's driving employees away?

Robert Half's findings come as more organisations introduce office-return policies, potentially putting employee retention at risk.

In fact, the report found that 45% of employees who are looking for a new job in the second half of the year are citing better benefits and perks as their top reason for doing so.

They are also in search of opportunities for career advancement (43%) and higher pay (42%).

Dawn Fay, operational president of Robert Half, stressed that employees are carefully evaluating their current role and what matters most in their career.

"With fewer professionals actively seeking new opportunities, employers need to be more strategic in how they attract top talent for critical roles – that includes a focus on flexibility, career pathing, and maintaining a positive workplace culture," Fay said in a statement.
