Australian organisations must ensure they have a clearly defined strategy for supporting the transition to retirement, because forward planning allows for a transfer of knowledge, maximised productivity and longer retention of mature-age employees.

    Auystralia needs more expertise in analysing the cognitive strategies of experienced and senior people. Cognitive Task Analysis is a methodology developed in the Human Factors/ AI systems field that appears to recognise that experts notice different cues and think differently from novices -and are not necessarily aware of how the 'do what they do". It offers the potential to bridge the Knowledge transition.
