HR leaders damned for awkward whistleblower reactions

HR’s best and brightest have a weak spot according to new research, which shows the function is failing to prepare well for whistleblowers.

    My understanding is that Whistleblowers are not generally protected in Australia - the only protections available specifically for Whistleblowers are specific to Public Sector organisations. Some large corporates have created Whistleblower Policies; but in the absence of such a policy there is no clear protection.

    If legislation compelled employers to provide impartial investigations into Whistleblower claims, then HR professionals would have more leverage to take action. However, we also need to listen to the experience of HR professionals and understand that not every Whistleblower complaint is actually valid - and similar to complaints of Bullying, these claims are sometimes made to deflect attention from poor performance.
