Western Australia targets U.K. to recruit 31,000

‘We are here to steal your workers’

Western Australia is hoping to entice workers in the U.K. to move overseas.

Government delegates will visit in February to recruit up to 31,000 doctors, police officers and teachers with the promise of higher and better wages.

“We are here to steal your workers by offering them a better life in one of the most beautiful places on the planet,” Paul Papalia, a Western Australia minister, will reportedly say in the campaign, according to ITV News.

“Our wages are higher and our cost of living is lower. Our health system is world-class. You will be taken care of,” he said.

A trade agreement set up in 2021 now allows British citizens under the age of 35 to travel and work in Australia for up to three years.

Papalia is also expected to emphasize Perth’s proximity to the beach and lack of toll roads or traffic jams, according to ITV News.

“And if you don’t want to drive, public transport is also capped. The most you’ll ever pay for a one-way ticket anywhere is £2.86. That’s all it will cost you to get a train from the airport to the city centre.”

In looking at the pay gaps between the two regions, Australia comes out on top for several positions for media salaries, finds ITV News citing government stats:
