I originally started studying Psychology. However, I did some work experience in an HR department and saw HR as a good opportunity to work with employees and management to make a difference.

How did you get into HR?

I have always been in a generalist HR role. My first HR position, however, was with the 2000 Olympics organisers and my focus was on recruitment, performance management, payroll and award interpretation.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

In five years’ time I would see myself leading an HR practice. Link is a share registry that has changed and grown dramatically since I came on board. It takes someone who is passionate about the company they work for. You must be able to influence, listen and motivate, especially during times of change.

By listening and understanding the particular needs within their areas. I actively work with them to provide sound solutions and initiatives to take the company forward.

What advice would you give to graduates considering a career in HR?

It can be very challenging getting your foot in the door of HR. My advice is if you’re passionate about HR, start by doing some unpaid work experience during university.
