Sixty-nine per cent of employees say that the high performers in their organisations get treated like gods by management and 56 per cent believe their colleagues are in awe of their success. A survey conducted by Talent2 also found that, surprisingly, 56 per cent of organisations do not benchmark high performers in order to upgrade the performance of all employees. Most people think the secret to the success of high performers is sheer hard work, with 25 per cent of respondents saying putting in the hard yards is the only way to achieve success, according to Talent2’s Jonathon Morse.

Storytelling expert to visit Australia

Storytelling is a key leadership competence that can help HR professionals to enhance the performance of existing leaders and effect change within their organisations. That’s the message from storytelling expert Steve Denning, author of The Leaders Guide to Storytelling and Squirrel Inc. Caution urged over competitive pressures and fraud

Large manufacturing sector companies are increasingly exposed to the risk of fraud, according to KPMG Forensic executive director, Dean Newlan. Reduced staffing means that the organisation can no longer ensure adequate internal controls are in place to manage the risk of fraud, he said. The most common type of fraud in industrial markets, according to the 2004 KPMG Fraud Survey, was theft of inventory and plant by employees. Some of the warning signs of potential fraud in industrial markets that often are not acted upon include: taking telephone calls while on leave; failing to take annual leave; and high wastage rates in production.
