What about the talented men?

I read with interest the article on Helen Danson, HR manager A&NZ, Furmanite Engineering solutions in Human Resources (Issue 105, 30 May 2006, p25). The article read well, until her answer to the question: “Who is your biggest professional inspiration?”

I read with interest the article on Helen Danson, HR manager A&NZ, Furmanite Engineering solutions in Human Resources (Issue 105, 30 May 2006, p25). The article read well, until her answer to the question: “Who is your biggest professional inspiration?”

Her answer: “The talented women in business I have met and worked with.” Not the talented men and women but the talented women! Here we have, in her words, a “motivated, resourceful and committed” HR manager with a limited view of the world.

When will the Helen Dansons of the world overcome their inferiority complexes, accept there is no such thing as a “glass ceiling” (as many talented women have already demonstrated) and understand that talented men and women will succeed in business as a result of their determination, hard work, intelligence and personality? HR managers, in particular, should not have such a narrow focus.
