How to build a connected culture for remote workers

COVID-19 has drastically changed the way organisations operate as they try to navigate through remote working journeys, according to Vicky Skipp, Head of Growth ANZ, at Workplace from Facebook.

Now that many employers are not physically observing their workers, the importance of making connections across the virtual divide has never been more important.

Workplaces have not had years to adapt to this new working environment – COVID-19 has been a rapid and unexpected change, unforeseen at the beginning at the 2020.

So how can organisations ensure their culture is sustained and strengthened during the pandemic?

“Businesses can support their employees by ensuring remote work policies are easily accessible, regularly checking in on employee morale, or finding ways to help colleagues show solidarity while apart,” said Skipp.

As a consequence of these massive changes to the working patterns of employees, Workplace From Facebook will be presenting a webinar on Thursday May 14 on building a connected culture for remote workers.

It’s a particularly timely topic, as recent research by Gartner found that nearly 50% of organisations reported 81% or more of their employees are working remotely during the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s also a subject that’s likely to be at the forefront of the minds of HR professionals for the foreseeable future, as 41% of employees are likely to continue to work remotely at least some of the time post-Coronavirus pandemic, compared to just 30% before the pandemic.

Interestingly, the research also found 48% of fully remote employees exhibit high discretionary effort, versus 35% of employees who never work remotely.

Skipp added that during this working from home environment, it’s important for workers to connect with each other, receive the information they need and, most importantly, to be kept safe.

“Our customers are constantly looking for new ways to keep their workforce connected and to ensure their employees feel supported while working remotely.”
