Employers told to put premium on proper job evaluation methods

Employers across New Zealand are being advised to recognise the value of job evaluation in the workplace.

"You cannot underestimate the value and importance of job evaluation and how it contributes to organisational success," read the white paper from Strategic Pay.

The paper defined job evaluation as the systematic process for establishing the relative sizes of jobs by comparing jobs or content based on common criteria.

"It removes the current job holder's characteristics and focuses instead on the requirements of the position," the report said.

According to the paper, the right job evaluation can boost employee engagement, attract and retain top talent, strengthen workplace culture, and optimise remuneration budgets.

Not applicable to New Zealand

The issue, according to the report, is that many job evaluation systems across the world may be irrelevant in New Zealand.

Strategic Pay recently developed a new Job Evaluation Expertise to address this gap.

According to Strategic Pay, it meets the current New Zealand Standard on Gender inclusive job evaluation, as well as captures cultural competency.

Strategic Pay expands further on job evaluation in New Zealand in this white paper.
