MCO 2.0 extended in Malaysia

Malaysia’s government has today (Feb 2) extended the country’s latest movement control order (MCO). The national lockdown will be in place until February 18th, announced Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a press conference.

MCO 2.0 will retain the protocols in place since January 13th and affect all states except Sarawak. The difficult decision was made following risk assessments made by the government. The latest lockdown was meant to end on February 5th.

“Risk assessments carried out by the Health Ministry found daily cases in all states showed an upward trend with increasing case numbers, with high numbers of sporadic infections within the community among both locals and non-Malaysians,” Yaakob said.
