The event, hosted by HRD and Referoo, discussed how to make the most of new technology
Everybody can agree artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the way businesses work, especially in recruitment and talent acquisition.
But the answers on why and how are not so clear cut for HR leaders.
At an exclusive industry roundtable, hosted in Sydney by HRD in partnership with online background checking software, Referoo, HR leaders discussed how the ‘two-way street’ between TA teams and candidates is creating issues in ensuring top talent is being attracted.
For recruiters AI is being used to screen CVs, craft job descriptions, and prepare for interviews, while candidates are using it for similar purposes - CVs are crafted to be a better job fit, and interviews are being prepared for by testing all possible scenarios.
And this creates issues around ensuring you’re hiring the person you think you are.
AI providing a barrier to attracting top talent
With AI becoming more sophisticated, there are risks that candidates may embellish their achievements with help from chatbots, like ChatGPT – especially prevalent if interviews are being done by phone or virtually.
Prospective candidates could be using AI assistance to script or prepare for interview questions that may not represent their skillset.
One business leader recalled a recent hire ended badly after just a week because their professional skills did not align with statements on their CV.
AI compliance in recruitment
Among discussions included a heavy reliance on AI to give TA teams a better understanding of the person they’re hiring – both for ensuring a god cultural fit and making sure the relationship between employer and candidate won’t be impacted.
With legal risks surrounding the use of social media, it was agreed that background screening checks were a good idea to ensure greater compliance.
Through using publicly-available information, organisations have a greater understand of who they’re hiring.
“With AI changing the bringing process, it’s highlighted the importance of employment checks to verify a candidate’s details, protecting your business and ensuring that you avoid bad hires,” Luke Maddison, Fractional CMO at Referoo, explained.
“The roundtable was fantastic; it was great to debate with leaders in the industry future trends across AI and digital.”
