Strengthened NTUC-IBF partnership to enable AI upskilling among finance professionals
Singapore's National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) are aiming to upskill 100,000 finance professionals in artificial intelligence over the next three years to help them prepare for a rapidly evolving digital economy.
The upskilling programme will be carried out through a suite of IBF-accredited programmes at the NTUC LearningHub, Singapore's continuing education and training provider.
Under its Learning eXperience Platform, finance professionals can enrol in the new IBF-accredited "AI Foundation for Finance Professionals" course.
This is an asynchronous e-learning course designed by NTUC LearningHub to help finance professionals apply generative AI in their day-to-day roles to enhance their workplace productivity.
It also aims to reinforce the importance of human judgement, accountability, and responsible use of AI in financial decision-making.
"As AI transforms the financial services sector, the differentiator will not be who has access to AI, but who knows how to use it responsibly and effectively," said NTUC LearningHub's Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Ong.
"Professionals need to understand not only what AI can do, but also where human judgement, accountability, and oversight become even more critical."
Stronger IBF-NTUC partnership
The new programmes come as the IBF and NTUC strengthen their partnership, which aims to advance AI skills upgrading and workforce development in the financial sector.
The IBF said it is also working with NTUC to provide support for finance professionals at different career stages to help them navigate evolving job roles and career pathways within the sector.
"In a fast-evolving AI-enabled future, the strengthened IBF-NTUC partnership is timely as we scale AI upskilling, and provide comprehensive support for our workforce through outreach, career advisory and youth mentoring," said IBF chief executive officer Carolyn Neo.
The Singapore government has been taking steps to develop its workforce for AI adoption. Its Infocomm Media Development Authority announced earlier this year that 40,000 tech professionals will also be trained to be AI-capable over the next three years under a major nation-wide effort.
