Former Meta exec joins Snap as APAC president

Ajit Mohan has been named as the new president of APAC for Snap, Inc., following the announcement that he’s stepped down as the India head for Meta. Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, said Mohan will lead the company's India, Australia & New Zealand, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Korea businesses. He will report to chief operating officer Jerry Hunter.

"Ajit will provide in-market leadership, lead cross-functional efforts across the region, oversee local operations, and lead our go-to-market strategy. He's a talented leader with a breadth of experience that will serve our community and partners in wonderful ways!" Spiegel said in a memo shared with HRD.

Mohan joins the company as Snapchat sees massive growth in India, which reported 100 million monthly active users a year ago. He is also set to lead the company's expansion across the APAC region, which has approximately 75% of the total addressable markets of 13+ smartphone users who do not yet use Snapchat.

"Ajit's leadership will help enable us to accelerate our growth across APAC and we could not be more thrilled to have Ajit joining the Snap team," Spiegel said.

Mohan is Meta's former vice president and managing director for India, where he served for four years. His tenure at the tech company delivered WhatsApp and Instagram more than 200 million users from India.

The announcement of Mohan's departure for the tech giant came just before Snap unveiled him as its newest APAC president.

"Over the last four years, he has played an important role in shaping and scaling our India operations so they can serve many millions of Indian businesses, partners and people," said Nicola Mendelsohn, vice president of global business group at Meta, as quoted by Press Trust India. "We remain deeply committed to India and have a strong leadership team in place to carry on all our work and partnerships. We are grateful for Ajit's leadership and contribution and wish him the very best for the future."
