Tesla’s VP of HR resigns

Felicia Mayo is calling it quits after just two years on the job

Tesla’s VP of HR resigns

Tesla’s vice president of HR and head of diversity Felicia Mayo has resigned.

She held the role for less than two years, reported CNBC. Under her leadership, the US-based company expanded its operations internationally.

Her departure follows a string of executive exits from the automotive company, including their former chief people officer Gabrielle Toledano.

A company spokesperson said that their “talented HR team in place” will continue to report to their VP of People & Places, Kevin Kassekert.

“We’ll miss Felicia and would like to thank her for her hard work over the last two years and wish her all the best in the future,” said the spokesperson.

“We have a talented HR team in place that will continue to report into our VP of People & Places and will remain focused on advancing our mission and making Tesla a great place to work.”

Several other top rank executives have quit in the past year under the steward of controversial CEO Elon Musk and Tesla’s mission-driven and high-pressured company culture. Those who left include VP of Legal, Phil Rothenberg, VP of Engineering, Michael Schwekutsch, and General Counsel, Todd Maron.

In such an ambitious environment, Na Boon Chong, managing director & partner, Talent, Rewards & Performance at Aon Singapore told HRD that “collective ambition” is key to avoid leadership dysfunctions.

“Collective ambition means that leaders are united under a singular vision, purpose, and aspiration,” Na said.

He said that collective ambition of a high-growth firm is fuelled by “competitive yet collaborative leadership”.

CEOs with “insight, foresight, and character”, he said, are the ones who can harness competition while also ensuring individual accountability.
