MOM updates employee travel advisory for COVID-19

Employers urged to impose Leave of Absence for staff who travelled between 14 and 20 March

MOM updates employee travel advisory for COVID-19

The Ministry of Manpower today (20 March) urged employers to impose a 14-day Leave of Absence (LOA) to all employers who travelled between 14 and 20 March.

For such company-imposed LOA, employees can be asked to use their annual leave to cover the period.

As the company-LOA would not have been discussed with the employees before the overseas travel commenced, MOM encouraged employers to provide additional paid leave to the employees if work from home is not feasible.

The government had announced a mandatory 14-day Stay Home Notice for all Singaporeans who returned from overseas this past week, effective today. The enhanced measure follows an increasing trend of imported cases of COVID-19.

“Some employers have already implemented a policy where employees returning from overseas travel between 14 and 20 March would be put on company-LOA,” MOM said.

“These employers should continue with their existing flexible work arrangements or leave arrangements, including asking employees to consume annual leave to cover company-LOA.”
