Linda Yaccarino steps down as X CEO

Linda Yaccarino has announced that she is stepping down as chief executive officer of social media platform X.

Yaccarino's departure comes two years after she joined Elon Musk's social media platform in June 2023.

She said it was "the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company."

"I'm immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App," she said on X.

"I'm incredibly proud of the X team - the historic business turn around we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable."

Musk replied in her announcement, saying: "Thank you for your contributions."

Yaccarino became the CEO of X, formerly known as Twitter, months after Musk officially completed the acquisition of the platform in October 2022 for $44 billion.

She was brought in to handle business operations, according to Musk, as he focuses on product design and new technology.

The outgoing X CEO said they started with the critical early work necessary to prioritise the safety of their users, especially children, and restore advertiser confidence.

"This team has worked relentlessly from groundbreaking innovations like Community Notes, and, soon, X Money to bring the most iconic voices and content to the platform. Now, the best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with @xai," she said.

"I'll be cheering you all on as you continue to change the world."
