HK announces tighter COVID-19 measures

Hong Kong today (December 8) announced tighter measures to contain its latest wave of infections.

The new measures include:

  • An early shutdown of all restaurants - by 6pm latest
  • Closure of gyms, as well as beauty and massage parlours

The city’s chief executive, Carrie Lam, urged citizens to stay home and stop all social activities, reported The South China Morning Post.

Lam said there were more than 600 cases recorded last week, with most being locally spread. Younger patients have also been experiencing more serious complications.

“There used to be a thinking that youngsters who got infected would be fine,” she said. “But this time, the perception has to be changed too. The situation is very worrying.”

Last week, civil servants were told to work from home and students sent home after schools were forced to shut once again.
