Firm sues former staff for poaching employees

Singapore insurance firm Prudential Assurance is suing its former senior financial services manager for allegedly mass poaching its agents.

The company is accusing Peter Tan Shou Yi of making over 230 agents and agency leaders quit and move to a rival firm.

According to the Straits Times, Tan was still an employee with Prudential when its agents had chosen to leave the company.

Prudential claims Tan made remarks to them on several occasions in 2016 – some of which were captured in audio recordings and presented to the court as evidence – that allegedly caused them to leave.

Tan’s lawyers are questioning the authenticity of the recordings, while Prudential’s lawyers are looking to prove that the person in the audio is Tan. If he denies, the court will decide on the issue.
