Have your say on Health and Safety Reform bill

The Transport and Industrial Relations Committee is seeking submissions on the Health and Safety Reform Bill which has been introduced to parliament. Find out how to make your submission.

Submissions are now being accepted by the Transport and Industrial Relations Committee on the Health and Safety Reform Bill.

The omnibus Bill proposes reform of New Zealand’s workplace health and safety system and seeks to replace the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and the Machinery Act 1950.

The Bill will also result in amendment bills to the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act, Accident Compensation Act, Employment Relations Act, and WorkSafe New Zealand Act.

While introducing the Bill into parliament, Labour Minister Simon Bridges called it the “most significant law reform in this area in 20 years”.

“Its main purpose is to provide for a balanced framework to secure the health and safety of workers and workplaces,” he said.

Submissions can be made either online via parliament’s website, www.parliament.nz, or by writing to Transport and Industrial Relations Committee, Parliament Buildings, WELLINGTON 6160.

Submitter’s who wishes to appear before the committee, need to state this clearly and provide a name, daytime phone number and email address.

The closing date for submissions is 11 April, 2014.
