CPF Board issues warning against scammers asking for employee information, salary payments
Singapore's Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board is telling employers to be vigilant against fraudsters posing as CPF Board officers.
In a report by AsiaOne, the CPF Board warned employers in an email that scammers have been posing as officers claiming to conduct investigations, compliance checks, or CPF-related verification exercises.
These scammers ask employers for information such as proof of salary payments, employees' personal particulars, or documents related to CPF contributions, employment records, or payroll matters.
They make these requests through WhatsApp, other messaging applications, or unofficial email addresses, according to the CPF Board, as reported by AsiaOne.
In its warning, the board told employers to ignore such requests, and urged them to stop and verify suspicious messages.
It said the CPF Board will only contact employers using official email addresses, such as those ending with "@cpf.gov.sg" or "@e.cpf.gov.sg".
Calls from the board will also come from 6227 1188, while SMSes are sent using the "gov.sg" sender ID.
Employers who are suspicious of requests that they receive can verify them using the 24/7 ScamShield anti-scam helpline at 1799, or by contacting the CPF Board directly.
The CPF Board is a statutory board under the Ministry of Manpower that is responsible for managing the compulsory savings and social security scheme for employees.
It has released multiple calls to the public urging them to watch out for scammers claiming to represent CPF Board on retirement and investment matters.
"Scammers may impersonate CPF Board officers, government officials, or financial advisors," the board said on Facebook.
"They may claim that they are representing or partnering CPF Board to advise you on retirement and investment matters, including the closure of your Special Account and offering investment products with attractive guaranteed returns."
