One month year-end bonus for these Singaporean staff

An additional $500 is also on the table for those in junior grades

One month year-end bonus for these Singaporean staff

All civil servants in Singapore will receive a one-month year-end bonus this year, according to the Public Service Division (PSD), with workers in junior grades to get an additional $500. The pay is part of the year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC), to recognise the "sustained hard work and diverse contributions" of civil servants amid the outbreak of COVID-19. In addition, civil servants in grades equivalent to MX15 and MX16, as well as those in OSS Grades III to V will be getting an additional one-time lump-sum payment of $500.

The PSD said that if the mid-year payments are taken into account, civil servants will receive a total of 1.3 months in full-year AVC, while those in junior grades will get an additional one-time payment of up to $1,200.

All civil servants will get a separate 13th month bonus of one month from the government, according to the PSD.

"The Government deeply appreciates the hard work and perseverance of all public officers in the fight against the pandemic. Working together, we will emerge stronger from this crisis, as a nation," the division said in a statement.

The year-end bonus comes as Singapore sees an economic rebound after suffering from the consequences of the pandemic.

The economy expanded by 7.1% on a year-on-year basis in the third quarter of the year, according to the PSD, while the growth forecast of the state's gross domestic product this year has been estimated to be around sever per cent. Resident employment also grew rapidly in the quarter, while unemployment rates have continued to decline since September this year.
