New platform to help the public understand their legal rights in work-injury scenarios
A new online resource based on Hong Kong's Employees' Compensation Ordinance is now available for public access.
The platform, known as the "Work Injury Occupation and Injury Compensation Database," aims to help the public understand their legal rights, claim procedures, and compensation options in work-related injury scenarios.
The database contains practical guidance from the ordinance's legal concepts, offering relevant case studies, medical treatment tips, and reference materials for compensation calculation.
It covers various occupations, including construction workers, cleaners, delivery riders, and office staff. It also covers common workplace injuries, such as falls, burns, back pain, and hearing loss.
The online resource, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, was developed by lawyers in the financial hub and was launched by the legal service matching platform, HKFindLawyer.com.
"Our goal is to help workers understand their rights clearly when faced with a work injury, without being misled or confused by insurers," a spokesperson for HKFindLawyer.com said in a statement.
"By identifying their occupation and type of injury, they can easily see the next steps for compensation."
Meanwhile, other practical tools in work injury compensation are also available to the public, such as:
- Work Injury Compensation Calculation Guide
- Permanent Loss of Earning Capacity Percentage Table
- Work Injury Claim Step-by-Step Guide
Hong Kong's Employees' Compensation Ordinance mandates employers to provide compensation to employees for work-related injuries, accidents, and occupational diseases.
"An employer is liable to pay compensation in respect of injuries sustained by his employees as a result of an accident arising out of and in the course of employment; or in respect of occupational diseases specified in the Ordinance suffered by the employees," Hong Kong's Labour Department said on its website.
