Leaders now integrating DEI into corporate values due to strong demand: report

There is now a growing effort among leaders to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into their corporate values amid strong demand from employees, according to a report from Modern Hire.

The paper, Advances in Measuring Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, noted that companies have mostly aimed their DEI efforts to achieve legal compliance.

"This led to foundational programmes such as diversity skills training and recruitment tracking, often without the kind of analytics or ongoing investment required to sustain gains over time," the paper read.

However, the paper pointed out that employees are now considering switching employers if their companies were lagging on DEI policies, among others.

People leaders have received this message, according to the paper, with more employers now including "Inclusive Leadership" in their skills priorities.

"Now, however, talent leaders recognise that uneven developmental diversity 'initiatives' are not enough, and many organisations are incorporating DEI into their values as changes in the labour market compel organisations to 'walk the talk,'" reads the white paper from Modern Hire.

According to the paper, this meant infusing their organisation's culture, core values, and competency models with a DEI mindset.

"In a holistic DEI culture, job success is defined not simply by how well the employee performs core job requirements, but how well they promote belonging, fairness, and a reduction of bias at work," it added.
