Singapore raises capacity on work-related events

Larger events are still subject for approval by authorities

Singapore raises capacity on work-related events

Singapore has now allowed work-related events (WREs) to accommodate up to 1,000 participants who will be subject to different anti-COVID rules. In a statement, Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said that WREs should always be mask-on events, with no consumption of meals or beverages allowed.

Participants are also required to at least maintain one metre of safe distance between each other, remain fixed in a seated of standing position, and be subjected to varying safe management measures, said MOM.

Organisers of larger WREs should also notify authorities by accomplishing an online form, added the ministry.

"This change will give businesses more flexibility to organise WREs, such as an employee townhall or awards ceremony.  The authorities will perform spot-checks for such WREs and enforcement actions will be taken against businesses who flout the rules," MOM said.

Meanwhile, MICE events like large-scale meetings, conferences, trade shows, and exhibitions where more interactions are expected will remain subject to the approval of authorities.

"Businesses can use the same form to apply for approval to hold MICE events. To help organisers assess if their intended event is a MICE event or a large WRE, the online form will contain a series of guiding questions," said MOM.

Participants of MICE events must also observe at least a one-metre safe distance between each other. They should also remain at the same table while consuming their meals.

Food, however, must not be the main feature of the event, according to MOM, and if served to a group, the number of people should not exceed five.

"We urge employers and employees to adhere to the latest guidelines and ensure that SMMs are properly implemented. This will reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission at the workplace," MOM said.
