'This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,' Musk says
Elon Musk has condemned US President Donald Trump's "big beautiful bill" as a "disgusting abomination" that will shoot up the United States' budget deficit.
Musk issued the remarks on X, saying he "can't stand it anymore."
"This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it," he said on the platform.
Trump's bill, dubbed the "One Big Beautiful Bill," is a controversial piece of legislation that the administration claims will deliver the biggest tax cut in American history.
But the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said the package will increase the country's deficit by $2.3 trillion over the next decade.
"It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt," Musk added.
Musk's remarks come following his departure from the US government last week after supporting Trump in his second term, where he even led the president's initiative to cut spending under the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
"As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending," Musk said on X last week.
But Trump said in a later statement that Musk is "not really leaving" and will continue to be "back and forth" to the White House, the BBC reported.
Responding to Musk's remarks, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said that the CEO is "entitled to that opinion."
"We obviously respect everything that Elon did with DOGE. On this particular issue, we have a difference of opinion," Thune said, as quoted by NBC. "He's entitled to that opinion, but we're going to proceed full speed ahead."
The White House on Tuesday said Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill is the "best chance in a generation to pass critical reforms for which Americans voted."
"This means an extra $5,000 in Americans' pockets with a DOUBLE-DIGIT per cent DECREASE to their tax bills. Americans earning between $30,000 and $80,000 will pay around 15% less in taxes," the White House said on its website.
The bill also eliminates taxes on tips and on overtime.
"This makes good on two of President Trump's cornerstone campaign promises and will benefit hardworking Americans where they need it the most — their paychecks," the White House said on its website.
The bill also boosts funding for immigration enforcement and the military, as well as ends Medicaid benefits for at least 1.4 million immigrants.
The US Senate is aiming to get Trump's bill passed ahead of the July 4 holiday, according to CBS, after the House passed the legislation in a tight 215-214 vote in May.
