Anthropic CEO continues to sound alarm over AI's threat to jobs

The chief executive officer of Anthropic, a leading AI research company, has doubled down on his warning about the impact artificial intelligence tools will have on jobs.

CEO Dario Amodei warned in May that AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs and increase unemployment by up to 20% in the next one to five years.

While his warnings were downplayed by research and even White House AI Czar David Sacks, who said AI implementation will not lead to a giant wave of unemployment, Amodei reiterated this week he was worried about the potential impact of the technology on the human workforce.

Speaking at the Axios' AI+ DC Summit 2025, Amodei said the job losses could happen faster or slower than he imagined.

"Or something very different could happen," he said. "But it is likely enough to happen that we felt that there was a need to warn the world about it and to speak honestly and in candid terms about it."

"What I'm really worried about is where the technology is going. I think there's a little disconnect here where people will sometimes say, 'Oh you're worried about what AI is going to do to jobs, but you know, AI can't do this, AI can't do that,.

"Well, we're talking about today's AI. The technology is moving quickly. I'm worried about advances in the technology and diffusion of that technology through society. That's where I get to the one to five years."

Employers across the world have indicated that they would reduce their workforce amid AI implementation. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told his employees to expect a reduction in the total corporate workforce "in the next few years" amid AI implementation.
