Hot topic: Forget the best, pick the mediocre candidate

Do highly qualified candidates need to downplay their skills if hiring managers start to look for mediocre candidates? That's one reader's suggestion

We reported on a European theory that a job candidate who genuinely believes he or she is a mediocre pick may be a good pick.

Based on a research paper, the theory goes that if the successful candidate felt indebted to the hiring manager, they will work harder to compensate for their perceived lack of ability.
