Job ads see decline in February: report

Job ads in New Zealand declined three per cent month-on-month in February 2024, according to a report.

The SEEK NZ Employment Dashboard revealed last week that national job ad volumes also went down 27% annually.

By region, the areas with the biggest month-on-month decline in the number of job ads are Manawatu (-24%), Taranaki (-14%), and Southland (-7%).

Regions that recorded an increase include Gisborne (9%), Marlborough (9%), and the West Coast (6%).

By industry, the Manufacturing, Transport, and Logistics sector saw the biggest month-on-month decline with nine per cent, according to the report.

The Healthcare and Medical sector, on the other hand, logged the biggest increase with six per cent.

The decline in monthly overall job ad volumes came after a one per cent increase in January, the first-ever rebound since August 2023, according to SEEK NZ.

Meanwhile, the number of applications per job ad went up three per cent in the month of January, slower than the six per cent growth in December.
